Using the woodworking technique of bent lamination, I was assigned the task of creating a container for 6 apples. With the joint as my main design detail, I focused my efforts on craftsmanship--keeping the design simple and elegant.
As an introduction to carving, I was to make a vessel of multiple pieces of wood featuring a distinct texture on each the inside and outside. I began by carving out the interior space from each of the eight pieces, leaving the natural carved texture as evidence of the hand-crafted process. Once joined, I treated the exterior of the vessel with a gem-like faceted surface, providing a surprising and exciting geometric contrast to the soft, natural interior.
